Orange Spice Spritz Cookies

These crisp little cookies, made using a cookie press, have a rich buttery flavor with a hint of orange.

These crisp little cookies, made using a cookie press, have a rich buttery flavor with a hint of orange, cinnamon and ginger. Sprinkle the raw dough with sugar crystals before baking and serve as individual cookies or make sandwich cookies with purchased frosting. Delicious paired with Dark Hot Chocolate.

Makes 12 servings

Ingredients

  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup plus 2 tablespoons powdered sugar, divided
  • 2 tsp orange zest
  • ½ tsp ground ginger
  • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • Sugar crystals, for garnish
  • Purchased pink frosting (optional)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F. In a mixing bowl beat butter with an electric mixer on medium for 30 seconds. Add ½ cup powdered sugar, orange zest, ginger and cinnamon; beat until thoroughly combined. Beat in flour until well mixed, kneading if necessary until smooth.
  2. Force dough through a cookie press onto a lightly floured cookie sheet. Choose a variety of tips to create different shapes.
  3. Bake 18 minutes or until lightly golden. Cool completely. Sift remaining powdered sugar on cookies. Sprinkle with sugar crystals. If desired, create cookie sandwiches by adding a layer of pink frosting in between two cookies.
