A Legacy of Faith

My greatest desire is to pass that legacy on to my children and their children. Many Scriptures refer to God's faithfulness from generation to generation. I believe that praying God’s Word over my family is the greatest weapon possible against the spiritual warfare faced in today’s world.

God has blessed me and my family abundantly, but the greatest blessing I have received is having great-grandparents, grandparents and parents who all prayed over me and lived the example of Christ. My greatest desire is to pass that legacy on to my children and their children.

Many Scriptures refer to God's faithfulness from generation to generation. I believe that praying God’s Word over my family is the greatest weapon possible against the spiritual warfare faced in today’s world. It is never too late to start praying Scripture over your family. Start with something like this:

Lord, you have given us good direction in Proverbs 2:1–7. I ask that my family receive Your teaching and counsel and guard those truths in each of our hearts. Let us each be attentive to Your skill and Godly wisdom, so we can live with understanding. I pray we will all seek Your insight and perspective continuously and strive for it in each life situation. May we each develop the fear of the Lord and grow in Your knowledge. I know You give wisdom, knowledge and understanding to the upright. You are a shield to those who walk in integrity.

Father, in Proverbs 3:1–12, you do not ask us to understand or to act apart from your instructions. You simply want us to trust you. Help my family to remember all You have taught. Help us to trust You and Your Word. Help us not to rely on our own thinking but to listen for Your voice in everything we do. You are the One who will keep us on track. Help each of us not to assume we know it all.
Cause my family to honor You with everything we own. Help us to give You our first and our best so you can bless us with more than we have ever known. Help us not to resent Your discipline and not to sulk under Your loving correction. Help us remember You correct the ones You love (Hebrews 12:6 and Proverbs 3:12).

I pray that just as it was said of Your good and faithful servant, Daniel—“an excellent spirit was in him” (Daniel 6:3)—may it also be said of my family. Draw us close to You and enable us to be more like You. I pray a silencing of the enemy’s voice, so we don’t miss Yours.

Thank you, God, that our family is growing in You and honoring You with our lives (Proverbs 3:21–28). You give us clear thinking and common sense daily. We are resting in You and developing a holy confidence within ourselves. We live with hearts of peace, because we know You so well.

Thank you that we can go through our lives trusting You to keep Your Word.

I love You, Lord.

Amen

One generation shall praise Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts.
