Bible verse 1 Thessalonians 5:17 has drama on an oversized piece of art.

Large Framed Verse Canvas

This oversized piece of art creates drama with its uplifting message from First Thessalonians. The letter transfer process is easy using a gel medium. Words become embedded in the gel as it dries and results have a slightly rustic look.

  • Verse template, printed
  • 13×19-inch multipurpose printer paper
  • Gel medium
  • White 8½×11-inch copier paper
  • 30×30-inch canvas, preframed
  • Decoupage medium (optional)
  • Four ½-inch×3-inch×3-foot boards
  • Wood filler
  • Black spray paint

  • Spray bottle with water
  • Foam brush (optional)
  • Printmaking rubber roller
  • Fine-grit sandpaper
  • Measuring tape
  • Pencil
  • Protractor
  • Handsaw
  • Hammer
  • Nails

Using a laser printer, print verse template (download here) onto 13×19-inch multipurpose printer paper. The verse on your copy will be reversed. It will read correctly after transferred to the canvas. Apply gel medium to the center of the canvas. With the verse face-down, adhere paper to the canvas. Work quickly and smooth out the verse paper. For smoothest surface, use a rubber roller. Apply gel medium to canvas surrounding the verse and affix plain copier paper. Let dry 2–3 hours. Lightly spray water onto paper-covered canvas and use fingers to remove the paper. Repeat until verse text is exposed and desired effect is achieved. The result will be rustic. To seal and add a glossy finish, use a foam brush to apply decoupage medium to the surface of the canvas; let dry.

Lightly sand boards. Measure 2½ inches in from each end of board and mark with pencil. Use a protractor to find a 45-degree angle on both ends of the board and mark the angles. Use a handsaw or a miter saw to cut the board at the marked angles. Repeat with other boards. Nail boards together to create a frame. Use wood filler to fill in the seams and cover nail holes. Let wood filler dry and remove excess. Spray-paint frame black and let dry. Carefully push canvas into frame.
