Healthy Everyday Habits
Many of us have unhealthy habits that we wish we could break, change or toss out the window. The truth is that changing a habit is difficult and can seem like a big challenge. Focusing on our daily habits, exercise and smart eating is a great place to start. Here are some simple steps we can take each day to help us lead a more balanced life.
Read the Bible and Pray. You need God’s Word more than you need your daily bread (Matthew 4:4).
Rest. The culture praises busyness and productivity, but God knows how much you need consistent and meaningful rest. If taking time to rest seems like a daunting task, start with smaller increments—30 minutes once or twice per day can make a world of difference.
Manage Stress. Daily stressors have a sneaky way of sabotaging many other aspects of our lives—they can even impact your ability to have restful sleep or lose weight. Make it a point to find ways to manage stress. Set aside time for at least 10 minutes of prayerful meditation and time with God first thing in the morning.
Move More. Research suggests at least 30 minutes of exercise every day to improve mood, heart health, body weight, and overall well-being. Sneak in ways to get your body moving throughout the day by opting for a walk around the building at lunch, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, engaging in physical chores, or taking your kids to the park and playing with them.
Aim for Healthy Eating. Making changes to your eating habits can be difficult. The first step is to purpose your mind and attitude to choose healthy foods. Implement small steps, such as drinking a glass of water with each meal and snack, bringing a healthful lunch to work every day, and making smart food choices when dining out.
