The Promises of God

You don’t need a library reference book to discover God’s promises—just open your Bible! It is full of God’s promises to you: 7,147 promises, according to Dr. Herbert Locklear in his study text, All the Promises of God in the Bible.

Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you as you read your Bible. Find a promise to fit your situation, perhaps a problem you face or a sin you wrestle with. Meditate on the promise throughout the day, turning it into a prayer or using it to praise God for what He will do for you.

God keeps His promises. Joshua 21:45 says, “Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.” That’s true for you, too. Here are just a few of those promises.

God is always with you. “This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9 NLT).

God will strengthen and help you. “So do not fear, for I am with you, do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10 NIV).

God has a plan for your life. “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope’” (Jeremiah 29:11 NLT).

God gives abundant life. “[Jesus said,] ‘The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came so that they would have life, and have it abundantly’” (John 10:10 NASB).

God comforts you. “I will rejoice and be glad in your steadfast love, because you have seen my affliction; you have known the distress of my soul” (Psalm 31:7 ESV).

God will forgive you. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9 NIV).

God gives you salvation through Jesus. “For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son so that anyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16 TLB).

God protects you. “‘Because he loves me,’ says the LORD, ‘I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name’” (Psalm 91:14 NIV).

God gives you peace. “[Jesus said,] ‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid’” (John 14:27 NIV).

God’s love never ends. “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22–23 ESV).

God has a purpose for you. “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10 NIV).

God can heal you. “‘For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds,’ says the Lord” (Jeremiah 30:17 NKJV).

God can give you hope. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13 NIV).

God gives you good things. “For Jehovah God is our Light and our Protector. He gives us grace and glory. No good thing will he withhold from those who walk along his paths” (Psalm 84:11 TLB).

God loves you no matter what. “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38–39 NIV).

"Jesus said to her, 'Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?'"
John 11:40 NKJV
